We have been working with Windflow for about four years. Initially the work we were doing was local –Gebies Pass, Christchurch which has one wind turbine. The work was mainly cleaning the blades, cell(the box on top) and shaft
Once we had proven to Windflow our capabilities and abseiling as a viable option to carry out work on the towers we were invited to work on the five test turbines at Te Rere Hau which is situated on farm land near Palmerston North.
This wind farm is in its second stage of development and I believe is set to have 98 turbines when finished.
- Stage 1 consists of 5 turbines (2.5 MW), which were installed in September 2006.
- Stage 2 (28 turbines, 14 MW), will be completed in 2009.
Work carried out:
- Cleaning - Preventative ( A regular scheduled clean )and reactive(When an oil hose leaked and the tower was covered in oil we cleaned it)
- NDT- Non Destructive Testing - the blades need to be tested regularly for defects and delaminating. All welds are also inspected
- Repairs - Spot Sand blasting corrosion and painting and injection work to blades
